Africa Regional Messengers of Peace Workshop Begins in Nairobi

Nairobi - Kenya: 20 National Messengers of Peace (MoP) Coordinators from different National Scout Organizations (NSOs) in the Africa Region have gathered in Nairobi for the Regional MoP workshop. The main goal of the workshop is to build capacity of National Coordinators to support National Scout Organizations to implement the MoP Initiative. Participants to this workshop will join the Regional MoP Core Team to grow the sense of ownership of the process by National Scout Organizations to effectively deliver the Messengers of Peace Initiative in Africa.

The Workshop on Messengers of Peace for the African Region was held between 17th - 22nd of January, 2017 in Sports View Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya. It had as its theme "Develop an implementation plan for the MoP initiative and Network in Africa".

Some key outcomes expected from the workshop will be to develop a harmonized regional plan to support NSA/Os to implement the MoP initiative; develop objectives of the MoP Network for Africa until the next Regional Conference in 2018; and to enhance social impact and visibility of the MoP Initiative for greater social impact

Participants will be expected to play the key role of multipliers within their NSO and zones, have the capacity and be available to support their NSO leadership and to support Regional, Zonal and National training activities when required.

TSA HOSTED EASTERN AFRICAN ZONAL SCOUTS COMPETITION



Tanzania Scouts Association hosted Eastern Africa Zonal Scouts competition held at Arusha northern part of Tanzania.
Three (3) major activities took part in a 3 different venues as from 11th till 16th December 2016.
Eastern Africa zonal activities
comprises of
1) Youth Forum
2) Scouts competition
3) Commissioner’s Conference.
Participants for all 3 events arrived at Arusha in 11th December 2016 and the official opening for all 3 three events took place on 12th December 2016 at Braeburn International School ground at Arusha.
Two hours opening ceremony started at 10.15am and completed around 12.05 noon.
Eastern Africa Zonal Scouts Chairman Mr. Charles Ray was the Chief Guest who officiate the Ceremony.
Scouts from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania participated in 3 events for the Eastern Africa Zonal activities.
From the opening ceremony ground, the Commissioner’s Delegation move to the youth Forum venue which situated about few meters from the Scouts competition ground.
Youth Forum venue took place at yakin Primary school and the Delegation arrived and spent 1 hour there with the youths Delegation.
Eastern Africa zonal youth Forum Chairman introduced his committee and the issues to be discussed. Apart from Eastern African zonal youth Forum participants, there were 2 invited youth from Zambia and Ghana.
After few remarks with the youth Forum Delegation, the Commissioner’s Delegation moved to Crown Hotel Arusha City Centre where the Commissioner’s Conference took place. 3 days activities conducted at 3 different venue from Monday to Wednesday. Thursday the 15th December 2016 was the Official closing day. And the Chief Guest was the Chief of the Defense Forces for Uganda Army Mr. Edward Katumba.
The Official Closing Ceremony started around 3pm by Chief Guest inspection for the campsite, Guard of Honor, and later on the closing speeches started.
Among other thing, Chief Guest did the following.
i) The newly elected Eastern Africa Zonal youth Forum Committee were introduced in front of the audience.
ii) Chief Commissioner of Tanzania Scouts Association Mr. Abdulkarim Shah were introduced as the New Term Eastern Africa Zonal Scouts Chairman .
iii) Assessors the Jury Panel for Eastern Africa Zonal Scouts Competition were introduced led by the Chief Assessor who then read out the competition results to the audience.
Among the winners were.
i) Tanzania girls Rover scouts
ii) Ugandan Boys Rover scouts.
iii) Kenyan girls Senior scouts
The ceremony were fully covered by the entertainment from scouts troops from
Rwanda
Burundi
Kenya
Uganda
And Tanzania.
Among the invited guest were Arusha District Commissioner, members of the Press from various media houses, and the large groups of the observers scouts from Uganda, Kenya and the host Tanzania.
2 scouts groups with the special needy (the deaf) came from Uganda and Kenya they were also awarded special Prizes by the Chief Guest.
Special thanks to the Chief Guest the Ugandan CDF who offer special dinner to the Commissioner’s Conference Delegation at Kibo Palace Hotel in Arusha, and the Delegation left Arusha on the following day, Friday morning.
Special thanks also to Tanzania Scouts Association for hosting the 3 events in the tourism region and the coolest weather of Arusha
In 2017 Eastern Africa Zonal Scouts Activities will take place at Kampala Uganda under the Chairmanship of the Tanzanian Chief Commissioner.
